Global education challenge F1 in Schools has announced that 55 teams from around the world will be competing in the Aramco F1 in Schools 2024 World Finals this November 22 – 26, at Dhahran Expo in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.

This announcement comes after months of regional and national competitions, which have enabled the top teams from across the globe to secure a place at the international stage of the challenge. F1 in Schools is active in over 60 countries, and with 55 teams at this year’s Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals, the event will feature over 450 students and their educators, ensuring a diverse geographic presence. Returning to defend their current World Champions title, held by Recoil Racing from Erlangen, is Germany, while a team from the Philippines will compete for the first time.

With a commitment to furthering female representation in STEM industries, F1 in Schools has recently publicized its ambition to achieve 50:50 male and female participation in its program. The participant breakdown for this year’s global event also illustrates its progress toward this goal, with females representing over a third of the students competing.

A multi-disciplinary challenge in which students aged 11-19 must use professional CAD software to design, analyse, manufacture, test, and race miniature air-powered F1-style cars, the three-day competition will see over 140 races take place as F1 in Schools teams compete for the fastest on-track speed.

Alongside their car’s performance, teams will also be assessed on their engineering and project management skills, as well as wider subject areas, including marketing, teamwork, innovation, and communication.

With 24 awards available, 10 of which are sponsored by F1 teams, the Aramco F1 in Schools 2024 World Finals will conclude with a prestigious awards ceremony on November 26 culminating in the highly anticipated announcement of the 2024 World Champions. Members of the winning team will receive several prizes, including the opportunity to receive a full bursary to University College London, and an exclusive F1 Grand Prix experience.

Following the competition’s end, students will travel to Doha for the F1 Qatar Grand Prix where they will take part in a pit lane walk at the famous Lusail International Circuit. A long-established F1 in Schools tradition, this trip enables teams to see the full-size versions of the miniature cars they have created up-close.

“It is fantastic to welcome so many students at this year’s Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals,” said Nelson Vale, Head of International Operations at F1 in Schools. “The event is the highlight of our calendar every year, and an opportunity to celebrate the phenomenal work of our students. To have so many talented teams from all four corners of the world come together in one place is truly inspirational.”
