Del

Panels and precision

Del began his career in 1982 as an Apprentice Maintenance Technician at Drummond Mill, where he first learned the importance of precision and problem-solving in industrial environments. He soon moved on to join the UK’s largest panel wiring company at the time, completing his training in control panel wiring and building a foundation that would take him across diverse sectors.

Over the years, Del has lent his skills to a wide range of projects: wiring control panels for textile machinery, refrigeration systems for major supermarkets, and even critical control panels for oil rigs and Virgin Trains. This varied experience not only honed his technical expertise but also gave him a rare versatility that he still draws on today.

“Those early years gave me a chance to work on so many fascinating projects - each one requiring a different approach and level of detail. It shaped the electrician I am today.”

At the heart of Denford

Del joined Denford in 2003, stepping into the role of machine electrician and panel wirer. His responsibilities are as hands-on as they come: drilling, assembling, and wiring panels, as well as preparing and soldering cables and motors ready to be installed into Denford’s machines and connected to their main control systems.

A natural mentor, Del has trained apprentices and work experience students over the years, taking pride in passing on his skills and helping develop the next generation of engineers. His commitment to teamwork and quality is evident in everything he does.

“I’ve worked alongside some fantastic colleagues here, and for many years, even had the privilege of working with my son. The team at Denford is talented, passionate, and proud of the work we produce.”

Beyond the workshop

When he’s not wiring panels or mentoring apprentices, Del takes to the stage as a semi-professional musician. As a skilled keyboard player in a gigging band, he regularly performs across Yorkshire…and beyond.

In his downtime, Del enjoys weekends away with his partner - exploring the countryside, enjoying good food and wine, and making the most of life outside of work.

“Whether it’s playing music or relaxing on a weekend away, I like to keep things varied - it keeps life interesting.”
